Fighting against the far-right’s threat to workers
Endorsed at General Assembly 2024.
The rise in Europe and globally of anti-democratic and far-right forces has been evident in the last twelve months. Trade unionists should be steadfast in their rejection of these groups and individuals, who consistently seek to divide the working class, weaken the role of trade unions, and scapegoat the most vulnerable in our societies.
Recent analysis from ETUI has shown how in eight key votes in the European Parliament between 2021 and 2024, these parties have consistently turned their back on the needs of workers. Namely within the:
- Council Directive on ensuring a global minimum level of taxation for multinational companies
- Pay Transparency Directive
- Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages
- Platform Work Directive
- European Parliament Resolution on strengthening social dialogue
- European Parliament Resolution on quality traineeships in the EU
- Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence
- Resolution on a Roadmap for a Social Europe
Despite a change in rhetoric, the far-right is no friend of workers.
We re-commit our efforts to combating their divisive political agenda.
