General Assembly 2024 takes place in Rome
CGIL hosts our yearly members’ meeting.
Last week (November 22nd) 2024’s general assembly took place in Rome, with CGIL hosting us in the eternal city.
Coupled with our final conference in our Researchers’ Working Conditions project, we were joined by colleagues and guests from across Europe to discuss the main talking points of the last twelve months, our current priorities, and the next steps in delivering for professionals and managers.
We began by honouring two figures who we lost this year, with tributes paid to Emilio Gabalio and Luis Campoamor Fernández by President Nayla Glaise, along ETUC Confederal Secretary Claes-Mikael Stahl. Both were immense figures in the history of Eurocadres, and will be sadly missed.
Attention then turned to the presentation of our Annual Report 2024, with discussions on political developments and the composition of the new Commission college (with a political agreement only found the night before).
Debates then led to the adoption of a number of resolutions:
- Sustainability must be central to AI use and/or development
- Fighting against the far-right’s threat to workers
- Call for de-escalation, peace and the implementation of international law in the Middle East
- Provide public services the resources needed to deliver
- Psychosocial risks must continue to be a priority
We would like to thank all members who participated in this year’s gathering, in particular to our colleagues in CGIL for their generous hosting of the event.
With 2025 being a Congress year, there will be plenty of work ahead in the coming twelve months.
