Eurocadres welcomes ceasefire in Gaza
Sustainable peace must be the objective of EU foreign policy.
After fifteen relentless months, Eurocadres welcomes the recently agreed ceasefire in Gaza, and calls upon the international community to ensure the free-flow of humanitarian aid to Gazan citizens.
Having regard to the statements of both ETUC and ITUC, Eurocadres reaffirms our call for a two-state solution in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions 242 and 338, ensuring the freedom and liberation of all people in the region.
In order for this ceasefire to hold and deliver a sustainable peace, we call on all parties to adhere to the agreement in all stages. We believe it is crucial that Palestinian and Israeli hostages be released, Israeli forces withdraw from Gazan territory, civilians be allowed return to their homes and humanitarian aid be delivered immediately.
We also decry the attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank, and repeat our calls for an end to the violence inflicted upon them.
The international community, who failed to intervene in this brutal conflict, must play a role in rebuilding the Gaza strip and ensuring peace along its borders. In particular, the international community must ensure that aid groups such as UNRWA – the UN agency for Palestinian refugees in the region, are allowed to deliver life-saving aid to those in need.
We also call on the EU to explore all possible levers to guarantee this peace, ensuring human rights and international law remain central to relations with trading partners. We urge President von der Leyen and President Metsola to heed the voices of workers and act towards creating a just and sustainable peace.
Working people across the world have provided aid and medical relief to the region during this conflict, marched for a ceasefire and peace, and pressed politicians to do everything possible to end the bloodshed. Eurocadres repeats our call to the EU and national governments to ensure no worker is penalised for contributing to the move for peace, and applaud workers for extending solidarity to those caught up in this conflict.
