EU whistleblower protection is possible
On May 4th the Greens EFA present a draft directive on EU-wide whistleblower protection. Eurocadres has read the directive.
–What this draft proposal clearly has proved is that workers rights is a legal basis that can be used for a whistleblower protection. Eurocadres, being a trade union organisation, of course supports this route, says Martin Jefflén, President of Eurocadres.
The vast majority of whistleblowers are employees speaking out. And it is in the role as employee that a good protection is essential.
–What this draft proposal clearly has proved is that workers rights is a legal basis that can be used for a whistleblower protection. Eurocadres, being a trade union organisation, of course supports this route, says Martin Jefflén, President of Eurocadres.
–We are happy to see a broad participation from many party groups in the launch seminar. This issue is far too important to have party boundaries blocking the path forward. Now the European Parliament has not only called on the European Commission for legislation, but this initiative, coming from Parliament, now prove that it is possible. It is up to the Commission to start acting, Martin Jefflén concludes.
The draft directive is presented in a seminar in the European Parliament that can be followed via live stream on May 4th.
The draft directive, summary etc. can be read on Greens EFA website.
