EndStress platform outlines needs for PSR protection

The political momentum behind a European directive on work-related psychosocial risks has continued to grow in the last number of years, with elections across the continent electing and returning many pro-action politicians.

Despite the political pause at European level, trade unions and civil society have continued to push for sufficient action through the EndStress campaign.

With the campaign having moved from gaining support to providing details, this week an internal platform position was reached on the content to be included in a directive on work-related psychosocial risks. Twelve pages in total, the document outlines the background, prominence, existing efforts to curb and proposed solutions to one of the biggest health-risks to European workers, and is the result of extensive work with the over-50 platform members. We want to put on record our thanks to all who contributed to the adoption of this text, including colleagues at ETUI who have provided the expertise on this subject.

“This text is yet another step unions and civil society have taken to make clear the need for minimum protection against PSR. While some policymakers may not want to take it from us, academics and health professionals have made clear that legislation can make a clear impact. We will continue to advocate for action against a health risk that exists in 80% of workplaces” – Eurocadres President Nayla Glaise.

While not a finalised document but rather one that will develop as we continue to push for a text which will protect workers, we outline the why behind a directive, and the content we would need to see (at a minimum level) within the text.
