Europe has an obligation to improve social rights

From a social Europe perspective, next Monday – January 23 – will hopefully provide a fresh breeze from the European Commission. President Juncker and Commissioner Thyssen will present the European Pillar of Social Rights: going forward together.

The long-awaited Social Pillar will finally come to daylight, when the European Commisson will present its proposals on the content. A white paper is expected to be published later this year in March.

The Commission’s proposals will be judged and accepted by European trade unions only if they make a real and positive difference to the lives of working people.

Eurocadres has together with the other trade union organisations been involved in pushing for a better and fairer social Europe. This includes for example fairness in job creation and quality, in mobility as well as secure labour market transitions. The ETUC highlights that the Commission’s proposals will be judged and accepted by European trade unions only if they make a real and positive difference to the lives of working people.
